Anna Bisset BA Hons, MA Art in Architecture
Anna Bisset is an artist who paints in acrylics, oils and watercolours and makes sculpture in a range of material. Anna exhibits her work and works to commission, collaborating with artists, designers and educators from other disciplines. Anna sees her practice as a way of communicating and sharing ideas, leading to greater creative fulfilment on a personal level.
She is a teacher and facilitator within the community in Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Essex and, through structured art classes and community projects, enables adults and children to access their creativity and work towards their personal goals.
With her sculpture projects, she has worked successfully with landscape architects and engineers for art-works to be installed on site, including London Docklands Development Corporation for “Figurehead”, a welded steel sculpture, and Groundwork Hertfordshire for “Propellers” on a Sustrans cycle route in Hatfield, Herts. “Peace Dove” was commissioned by Vision Redbridge as part of Art Trail Wanstead’s centenary commemoration of WW1: the sculpture was installed in a series of locations with accompanying art workshops.
Anna has worked with music specialists on the Heritage Lottery Funded project “Music into Art” and with the Parish of Wanstead on “Open House at St Mary’s Church, Wanstead”. These projects involved tutoring groups of students and curating exhibitions of their work for public display. The Open House at the St Mary’s Church was notable in it’s use of the whole interior space of this exceptional Grade One listed building; the resulting exhibition encouraged the visitor to engage with and enjoy more fully this unique and beautiful building.
A recent community project involved working with puppeteer Alice Stanley on a performance with a group of teenagers with speech and language difficulties: as well as the puppets, the script, the backgrounds and the puppet show were all part of an over-arching plan.
Anna continues to pursue a wide range art projects, combining teaching, group projects, her own artwork and exhibitions. This exploration embraces issues such as community, teamwork, a shared goal, sense of place and personal inquiry.
